Agbogbloshie, this large wasteland located in Ghana was immortalized in 2010 by Pieter Hugo. In his extensive work on Africa’s hidden side, he gives us a new album dedicated to the orphans who live on high-tech trash from the western world. Striping down computers, they contaminate their land by leaving their health. In his extensive questioning about XXI century’s advanced technology and those who are left out, Pieter Hugo puts the viewer in the middle of the scene and leaves him the choice of answers…
Born in 1976 in Johannesburg, Pieter Hugo lives and works in Cape Town. For him, the end of apartheid in 1991 constitutes a fundamental break and forever changed his view of the world and Africa. Displayed all around the world : London, New York, Treviso, Sao Paulo, Lisbon, Paris… In 2011, he received the Seydou Keïta Meetings in Bamako Grand Prix in Mali.
